Breast Augmentation
Every woman is unique and so are her needs. If you’re unhappy with the size and shape of your breasts, or if they have lost fullness due to childbearing or age, breast augmentation can give you the natural, pleasing look you’ve been hoping for. Women can only have their breasts corrected if they no longer develop spontaneously. Breast augmentation is consistently the most popular plastic surgery treatment sought by women.
Breast augmentation (Augmentation mammoplasty) is a surgical procedure that enlarges your breasts using breast implants. Commonly known as ‘the boob job’, it is not only the most commonly performed procedure for women, but a significant number of our patients have reported an almost instant boost in their self-confidence after the surgery. Its a surgery in which Dr. Shetty places breast implants or uses your own transferred fat tissue to improve the fullness, size, shape, and symmetrical appearance of your breasts. The surgery can also restore volume lost after having children by enhancing the feminine shape of the body and reviving the curves. According to the USFDA, a woman should be at least 18 years of age for cosmetic breast augmentation.
During the consultation, your surgeon reviews your medical history, including past medical conditions, current allergies and medications, as well as your personal or family history of breast cancer and any other breast issues. After a brief examination, the surgeon discusses your current breast size, and listens to your goals and desired changes. Depending on your specific needs and goals, other procedures, such as a breast lift, can often be performed in tandem with your breast augmentation for an even greater enhancement to the breasts.
PROCEDURE:
Breast augmentation is an outpatient procedure. While you may remain under observation for a few hours after surgery, you can return home the same day. The incisions are made in inconspicuous areas to minimize visible scarring. They are less than 1 inch long and hidden in the breast crease or along the areola border. The whole procedure will be performed under general anesthesia and it typically takes between 2-3 hours to complete. The surgery begins with an incision made in one of the following areas:
In the fold on the lower part of each breast just above where it touches the chest
Around the areolas (the darkened skin surrounding the nipple)
In the armpits
Later the implants are positioned and then closed and sutured back together. The method of implant selection and size, along with surgical approach for inserting and positioning breast implants, will depend on your preferences, your anatomy and your surgeon’s recommendation.
When considering breast augmentation surgery, there are three kinds of implants that you can choose- saline, silicone or “gummy bear” breast implants.
- Saline breast implants are filled with a sterile saltwater solution.
- Silicone breast implants are filled with a gel substance that looks and feels similar to natural breast tissue. They are ideal for women who are thin-chested.
It’s also important to understand that while breast augmentation can improve the appearance of mild sagging, it isn’t an effective procedure to address moderate to severe sagging. If your primary goal is to correct sagging issues, you may achieve better results with a breast lift.
YOU ARE A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR BREAST ENLARGEMENT PROCEDURE IF:
- You feel that your breasts are too small.
- Breasts that are out of proportion with your figure
- You no longer have the firm, full look that you had prior to breastfeeding.
- Breasts are asymmetric or unequal in size (of different sizes or shapes)
- You have difficult “filling out” standard clothing sizes.
- Your breasts have become smaller or droopy after significant weight loss.
- You want to restore a more youthful appearance to your breasts and body.
- You had earlier breast implants that you are unhappy with in size or shape.
RISKS:
When considering breast augmentation, always look for a board-certified cosmetic surgeon with specialized training and significant experience like Dr. Sahebgowda Shetty. Modern engineering creates strong and durable implants. The risks for rupture are very rare. If there is no rupture, leakage, deflation, or any other visible defects (such as rippling), then there is no need to change the implant or have any type of secondary surgery.BREAST AUGMENTATION: AFTERCARE
The surgeon will prescribe pain killers. Most women get back to work one week after their breast augmentation. During this period, it’s common to experience some swelling, bruising and pain, however it will be manageable with medications . You cannot participate in any strenuous activities or heavy lifting for about 3 weeks.BENEFITS OF BREAST AUGMENTATION:
- Increased self-confidence
- Feeling more feminine
- Ability to comfortably wear more clothing styles
- Increased sexual confidence and pleasure
- Provide a more proportionate contour
- Improve breast shape
- Correct asymmetry
